Shutterfly Holiday Cards

I would like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy start to an amazing holiday season. So much has been going on and there has been many great changes - all of them positive - which gives me much reason to celebrate and be thankful. This year, I wanted to send out the perfect holiday cards. In the past, I have used Shutterfly to do birth announcements and birthday party invitations.

This year, I decided to use Shutterfly for my holiday cards. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from. You can even split your order! Make half of your cards Christmas and the other half Holiday Cards. I plan on sending out some New Year cards this year.

This year's cards are going to be very special since it will be the first Christmas for our family's newest addition - a baby girl! Spotlight Technique

I was introduced to the spotlight technique by my friend. Click here to see Ann's page. She saw it on one of the Bella challenges. I decided to give it a try and I absolutely love how this card came out.

I am not really sure who makes this stamp because I stamped the image out when I was visiting Ann. I colored the image using Copic Ciao set C and my Copic Blender pen. The paper and punches are SU. I used the treading water punch and cuttlebug swiss dots folder on the background for my image. The ribbon is from my stash and the rain drops are from Cloud 9. The cardstock is SU and Bazzill. I highlighted the cupcake using my Sakura Stardust Clear pen. To make the images pop up, I used my Stampendous pop up 3-D sticky squares.

Paper Pieced New Baby Card

One of my good friends at work is expecting her first baby girl this week. I was so excited that the little one will be here soon that I already made the card. It is possible that the baby will make her debut a little early right? My daughter was exactly one week early. Of course my own mother called my baby's birth date months ahead of time! The only problem with my own daughter arriving a week early was that it interfered with me taking my last exam to finish my law degree. Just as my own mother predicted, my little girl came the exact day of my Family Law final (fitting right?). I ended up taking the exam when I came out of the hospital and graduated from law school without any trouble =) It is so much easier to take a law school final after you have given child birth. Anything is easy compared to that!

Back to the card...I paper pieced Baby Bella Pea with designer paper from a DCVW pack. I also used nesties, bazzill cardstock, tuxedo black memento ink, Tim Holtz Distress ink in Worn Lipstick and Peeled Paint, Stampin Up Punches & Sentiments, and EK Success corner punch. Of course I had to decorate the inside of the card too! I hope you enjoyed my card.

Whiff of Joy New Releases & Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies

I am so excited to share that my store Wish On A Scrap will be carrying the new releases from Whiff of Joy Stamps. Be sure to stop on over to the store to see these adorable new stamps. If you are up for a challenge, visit the store blog as we will have some yummy blog candy posted very soon.

Winter has gotten me in the baking mood. I made my regular chocolate chip cookie recipe and then dipped the cookies into melted semi-sweetened chocolate chips. This simple treat was absolutely delicious.

Here is the recipe for chocolate chip cookies from Crisco:

3/4 cup butter flavored shortening
1 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
1 Tablespoon real vanilla
1 egg
3/4 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups of flour
1 cup chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375. Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture just until blended. Stir in choc. chips. Drop by teaspoon full of dough 3-inches apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375for 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies or 11 -13 mins for crisp cookies. DO NOT OVERBAKE! Remove cookies to foil to cool. Makes about 3 dozen.

Here is the part that I added to the recipe for my treats:
In separate small saucepan, melt bags of semi-sweet chocolate morsels. Dip each cookie halfway in dark chocolate and return to wax paper to cool. Place in refrigerator to set the chocolate. Enjoy =)

Black and White Winter Card

Happy New Year! I still have not decided what this year's resolution will be. I would love to hear what you have decided to resolve for 2009.

The card for today was something that I had envisioned in my mind and then just had to put onto paper. I bought the stamp over the summer because I knew it would make a beautiful winter card. Black and white are my favorite shades; I wear them almost every day so I figured I would make a card that reflects my clothing style. I also decorated the inside of the card just as my muse Kim does on her beautiful cards.

My 1st Tilda Card

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon and evening at Ann's house crafting our hearts out. I finally got a chance to color my first Tilda. Having now had this intense copic coloring experience, I have a new found respect for all the stampers who turn out these beautiful images on a regular basis! Although I totally enjoyed making this card, the coloring was so detailed!!

For this card, I used the following supplies: The paper used on the card came from a DCWV pack, the sentiment is from Stampin Up on the outside and inside of the card, rectangle scallop nestabilties, pop-up glue dots from SU, Copic Ciao 72 set A, bazzill cardstock, SU circle punch, SU scallop circle punch, paper punch butterfly & firefly, and an EK Success corner punch for the design on the inside of the card.

I wish everyone a blessed new year. Thank you so much for your support over the past year. I have enjoyed getting to know my readers and I appreciate all of the feedback provided. Here's to a prosperous and healthy 2009 =)

Birthday Dinner

This is probably going to be my last food and recipe post until next year when I decide to cook again ;) I cannot believe how good the food turned out for my husband's birthday dinner! I got the recipe from a member of a yahoo group that I belong called CopycatsClones-n-BrandNames There are so many wonderful recipes posted in the group and such nice members there.

Here is the recipe:

Cheesecake Factory Louisiana Chicken Pasta
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
3/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons flour

Cajun Sauce
1 tablespoon butter
1 small yellow pepper (chopped)
1 small red bell pepper (chopped)
3/4 small red onion (chopped)
3 whole garlic cloves (minced)
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1-1/4 pints whipping cream
1 cup low sodium chicken broth
4 tablespoons fresh basil (thinly sliced)
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 (12 ounce) package bow tie pasta
1 cup mushroom (sliced)

Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat.

Add yellow and red bell peppers, mushrooms, and onion to same
skillet,until crisp-tender, about 4 minute.

Add garlic and crushed red pepper to skillet and saute 3 minutes.

Add whipping cream and chicken stock.

Simmer until sauce re-heats and thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.

Add basil and 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese to sauce, stirring to
incorporate.

Season sauce to taste with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low,
simmer; sauce will reduce and thicken.

Wash and drain chicken breasts.

Pound until very thin (the thinner the chicken breasts the better).

Mix breadcrumbs, flour, and Parmesan cheese together.

Place milk in dish for dipping.

Dip chicken in breadcrumb mixture and then in milk and then back in
breadcrumbs.

Place in fry pan that the oil has been heated and fry at medium high
temperature until golden crisp and cooked through.

Add more oil as needed.

Remove and drain chicken; keep warm.

Meanwhile, cook bow-tie pasta in large pot of boiling salted water
until tender but still firm to bite.

Drain and return to pot.

Add sauce and toss to coat.

Place pasta with sauce on plate, and top with chicken breast.

Serve, passing additional Parmesan separately.

Serves 5 to 7

Hubby's Birthday

It seems that the week before and the week after Christmas are filled with tons of parties in our home. Today, is my husband's birthday and we are having another party at our house. I just finished cleaning up from my daughter's party and now we are onto another =)

It has been months since I have picked up my copic markers and I was not happy at all with my coloring on this card. Finding a male card was difficult too and so I settled on the golfer image - even though my husband has never golfed in his entire life ;) I will be baking his favorite chocolate chip cookies as part of his gift and I am trying my hand at a new recipe for dinner.

Here is the recipe for Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies:
6 dozen cookies

4 1/2 c all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups butter, softened
1 1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
2 (3.4 ounce) packages of instant vanilla pudding (you
can use chocolate to make chocolate choco chip cookies
or any other flavor to get creative and change it up)
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

preheat oven to 350
sift together flour and baking soda, set aside

in large bowl cream together butter, brown sugar white
sugar. Beat in the instant pudding mix until blended.
Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Blend in the flour
mixture. Finally stir in the choco chips and nuts.

drop cookies by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased
cookie sheets

bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden. Edges should
be golden brown.

keep in Tupperware and they'll stay super soft and
chewy for as much as a week and a half.

Elmo Birthday Party

Today we are celebrating my daughter's 4th birthday with family and friends. I made these cupcakes for her Elmo themed party. I am relatively new to baking so I am definitely happy with how these turned out.

Just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. We had a wonderful holiday and my little girl truly enjoyed getting all of her gifts from Santa. It is amazing to watch the holiday through the eyes of a small child.

Here is a wreath that I made for my outside door. I used a fake pine wreath, stick decorations that were on sale, and ribbon. I twisted the decorations and ribbons right into the leaves of the wreath. The most challenging part was tying the bow =)

I still am not fully better, but I just wanted to wish my friends a very wonderful holiday. I hope to be back in full action for the new year. Here is a cute Christmas tree that was very easy to make. I used a cylinder shaped styrofoam cone, scrapbook paper cut into strips, and straight pins. I then dusted the loops with some sparkly modge podge. Finally, I screwed into the top a star that I looped some ribbon on.

Out of the Loop

I have not posted in a very long time. If you were wondering what happened, I have been ill for the past 2 months. I am finally starting to feel a little better and I hope that I will be back to myself very soon. I am excited to catch up on my blog reading. I have been out of the loop for so long! I would like to thank Deb for being such an amazing friend. She has been an enormous help to me! I plan on creating some stuff and posting soon.

I also will be carrying Whiff of Joy Stamps and Magnolia Stamps. Feel free to check out Wish On A Scrap for the most adorable new stamps. I apologize for not putting forth a kit for the month of November. I hope to be able to do one for December. It really all depends on my progress. Coaster Post-It Note Holder

I received a lovely coaster post-it note holder from my good friend Kim. Of course, I had to make one too! This is another simple and fast project that took under a half hour to complete.

Supplies include a medium weight coaster, modge podge, designer paper of your choice (I used Basic Grey Blush Collection), a binder clip, ribbon, bling, and a post-it note pack.

First, I traced my designer paper on the coaster. I cut it out using my favorite Tim Holtz Tonic Scissors (the best!!) and I adhered it using Modge Podge (of course I used modge podge right?). I then inked up the edges of my coaster using my Tim Holtz Distess Ink in Fired Brick. I attached a piece of the designer paper to the binder clip and also adhered it using Modge Podge. Next, I stuck the post-it notes to the finished coaster and clipped it down with my binder clip. Finally, I added a matching ribbon to the binder clip, a Prima flower and some bling =)

RockBottom Scrapbook Supplies Challenge

I have a yahoo group where members get discounts at products sold at my store, Wish On A Scrap. Members also get previews to the monthly contest kit before I release it to the general public. We regularly host contests and challenges for our members. My group is moderated by my dear friend Deb of Itty Bitty Ink Spots. She is an amazing person and I am so lucky to have her help me run the group. Last week, Deb put together a card sketch for members of the group to participate. Of course, I could not help myself and made a card for the sketch.

I flipped the sketch a bit so that it could work with my images. All of the stamps are from Stampendous. I used my Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Shabby Shutters and Broken China for the images and inking the edges of the cardstock. The designer paper was picked up on sale at one of the majors. The cardstock and punches are Stampin Up. I used my copic markers and copic blender pen to color in the flower and then popped it up with 3D Sticky Squares. I accented the leaf of the flower with Stickles in stardust and patina. In the middle of the flower is a jeweled brad by Heidi Swapp.

Wish On A Scrap Mini Pizza Box Treats

This is my first attempt at making a mini pizza box. I got the tutorial from Scor-Pal Summer Magazine. I used the papers from the August Contest Kit at my store, Wish On A Scrap.

The supplies for this project include a Scor-Pal, Marvy Punches, a stamped image of your choice, Copic markers, Terrifically Tacky Tape, Glossy Accents, and 3D Sticky Squares.

The tutorial was easy to follow for making the mini pizza box. Next, I decorated the box with my supplies. I used the glossy accents to make the green trim around my cupcake look glassy. The 3D squares were added to make the project look dimensional and were used in between the cupcake image and the Marvy punches. You could easily substitute the Marvy Punches with any of the Nestabilities shapes. Finally, I filled the mini pizza box up with some delicious treats =)

One of my good friends is not feeling too well so I made this card to cheer her up =) I was inspired for the layout of my card from Kazan's sketch at Two Sketches for You.

The supplies used on this card include Nestabilities, a Cuttlebug, Bazzill cardstock, Designer Paper from Diecuts with a View, Treading Water Punch, 3D Sticky Squares, Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Walnut Stain, and Glossy Accents over the flowers I colored in with my Copics. Perfect Pearls, Tim Holtz Distress Reinkers, and Lace Paper

This card was a lot of fun to make. To create this card, you will need to gather a few supplies including: Perfect Pearls in the color(s) of your choice, Tim Holtz Distress Reinkers in the color(s) of your choice, Ranger Mini Misters, a sheet of Lace Paper (mine is from KI Memories), cardstock, adhesive, stamp and coloring tool of your choice. I highly recommend a non-stick craft sheet because this project is very messy and will stain if you are not careful. Although not all of these products are uploaded to my store website just yet, I can get any of them if you are interested in getting it.

First, take a scoop of the perfect pearls powder and put it into your mini mister bottle. Place a drop of the reinker into your mini mister bottle and a little bit of water. Shake it up and then you are ready to spray your paper. My paper was originally plain white. I alternated with pinks and blues to create the colors that I sprayed onto the white lace paper.

I then glued down the lace paper onto cardstock using Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive. I colored my image using my favorite copic markers. I used the colorless blender on the pants of my image. I gave my girl eyeshadow using a Copic Spica Glitter Pen. Finally, I embellished with a sentiment stamp that I got from a good friend, a scallop circle Stampin Up punch, a brad, and some primas.

American Crafts Thickers Frugal Substitute

I was delighted to get my first package of Thickers the other day. As I am sure you have heard, these foam letters are all the latest rage. As I was playing with them, I started to think about the Foamies that I used to put on my scrapbook pages when I first started the hobby years ago.

I am always trying to bring the cost down of this expensive hobby. I went into my stash and found tons of Foamies that I had forgotten about. You can buy a whole bucket of these guys for a few dollars. You can get the packages of Foamies for even cheaper. The Foamies come in a variety of styles and colors.
Best of all, they are acid free (as I know many crafters are very concerned about that). These are just a small fraction of the shapes that are available in the Foamies. I adore these little puzzle pieces! On the colorful letters, you punch out the flowers so that you can see them on the letter and then you also have extra flower embellishments to use on another project. The Foamies are all adhesive and ready to go.

One package of American Crafts Thickers averages at $4.99 whereas an entire bucket of Foamies averages at $3.99. The Thickers are sold in packages of one color at time. With the Foamies, you get so many more letters to play with and a variety of colors in the same bucket. I hope you enjoyed my frugal crafting tip =)

Inchies

Tonight, I gave my first try at making Inchies. This was a real challenge because the amount of space that you have to create on is so tiny! The pictures of these inchies look way bigger than what they are in reality. I used only scrap paper to make these so I was happy to not waste =) Of course, I sealed my inchies with matte modge podge.

On another note, I was featured on Tip Junkie today for a project I did not too long ago. What a great way to end the weekend.

My 3 Year Old Made This

It's the summer and when it rains, you cant go to the beach or pool. My little princess gets so sad when she cant play outside that I have to think of something creative to make inside fun =) Today, we made a wooden picture frame together. We first painted the natural wood frame blue. She was so excited to wear her smock! I then gave her one of my sponges and she dipped it into a lighter color blue paint. My 3 year old had so much fun sponging this frame. Finally, we glued on a pre-made rubber ducky that she picked out from Michaels. So, there you have it. Rainy day fun that costs a few bucks!

Altered Wooden Paperclip

Modge Podge & me - we go way back. I am talking way back to old school paper mache projects in elementary school. I try my best to keep it out of sight so that I can control the altering impulses. I just had to alter this cutie paperclip. I couldnt help myself ;)
To do this quick project, I took apart the wooden paper clip and put the metal piece to the side. Next, I painted the wooden paperclip blue to match the designer paper. After the paint dried, I traced the paper against the wooden paperclip. I cut the paper out for its front, back, and sides. I then put a thin coat of modge podge onto the clip and adhered the designer paper to it.
I allowed each section to dry before I moved onto the next. I then took my Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Broken China and inked the edges and tops of the paper. I sealed the entire project with another thin coat of modge podge. After everything has dried, I put the metal piece back onto the wood so that it became a paperclip again. If you stand the paperclip on its legs, you can use the opening to hold a picture, paper, or post-it notes as I have here in my picture. I am also a huge fan of double sided designer paper. This paper is from Fancy Pants and was in the July Contest Kit. Since I really like both prints, I used both sides of the paper for each side of the paperclip. This project did not take more than an hour to complete.

We are officially opening a search for Wish On A Scrap’s Premiere Design Team. Our search will close on August 15, 2008 and we will announce the members of our new team shortly thereafter. A Design Team member should have experience in making cards, layouts, and altered art projects. However, you do NOT need to have previous design team experience. Please feel free to post this announcement on your blog and/or where deemed appropriate.

Design Team Member Role:

Commit as a design team member for Wish On A Scrap from September 2008 to January 2009.

Create several projects each month using products from our store and/or kits. The amount of projects assigned will depend on your assignment (i.e layouts, cards, or altered projects). For each submission as a DT member, you will also need to include instructions on how you created your piece.

Disney Drawer Knobs & Lightswitch Plate Cover

As some of you know, I am a huge Disney fan. I wanted to add a little Disney to my daughter's room, but I didnt want to go overboard because her decor is not in primary colors. I decided to alter some drawer knobs. I even made a lightswitch plate cover to match the drawer knobs.

All you need to do this simple project is the rub-ons of your choice, drawer knobs & a lightswitch plate (I got mine at Home Depot for under $5), and some modge podge to seal it. Carefully rub-on the picture of your choice to the knob or plate and then seal it with a few coats of Modge Podge. This was so easy to do & the longest part of the entire project was waiting for the modge podge to dry in between coats.

Card Box Holder, Cards, & Envelopes

I created this little set as a thank you gift for a friend. I used the Chloe Marie Daisy D Collection paper & Bazzill bling paper for the holder & cards. I used Georgia Pacific paper from Walmart to make the envelopes.

To make the card box, I followed this awesome tutorial on Dawn's Stamping Thoughts. I really cannot get enough of this woman's blog. Her directions are so easy to follow & she is so creative =)

On my box lid, I used the Fiskar's Treading Water Punch along the edges. These punches sold out of my store so fast, but I should have them back in stock very soon =)

My cards are a little different; I made my cards smaller and they are 4x4. I also used Stampendous Dot Sparklers in Silver to accent the beautiful paper. I wanted these notecards to be useful for just about anything and that is why I did not stamp them with a sentiment.

To make the envelopes, I used my Scor-Pal. My envelopes are made out of paper that measures 5 1/4" x 10". I scored the envelopes at 4" and 8 1/4", and also on both sides at 11 1/2" when the paper is flush to the right side of the board. Altered Tins & USB Drive Holder

I have always admired the altered tins with the paper pads inside of them. I always wondered where do you find paper to fit inside the tins? Well, I still dont have that answer, but I can show you how to cut the paper down to size.

Supplies you will need:

Small Paper Pads (I got the recycled ones from Staples)

DVD Tin

A razor (be careful!)

A straight edge - I used my Tim Holtz Design Ruler

I first measured the paper inside the tin to see where I should make my cut. I then lined up my straight edge with the line on the paper and cut through the sheets of paper. I had to go back and forth several times and use a bit of pressure to get through the entire stack of paper. The paper pad is then ready to be decorated and placed in the tin.

I decorated the DVD tin and the paper pad with Daisy D Paper. I inked the edges of the paper before adhering the paper with my taperunner. I put tiny buttons on top of the pink polka dots as accents. I covered the inside of the tins too.
I also created a little holder for a USB drive out of Small Hinged Top Tin. I have seen these done with Altoid style tins, but I made my holder with a smaller version of that style tin. I found the USB drives to fit inside this tin at Costco (which is a price club discount warehouse in NY).
I also customized my USB drive with the same paper.

Tier of Treats & Ranger Glossy Accents

This birthday card was created for one of my favorite people. I made this delicious card using a Stampendous stamp, Tier of Treats. If you are interested in purchasing this stamp, please email me as I have not had a chance to upload it to the store.

To make the strawberries and cherries look extra yummy, I accented them with Inkssentials Glossy Accents by Ranger.

This stuff is amazing! It makes your colors pop & look like glass. Of course I used my favorite copic markers and stickles on this card too. The paper is Basic Grey. The sentiments are Inkadinkado's Formal Expressions. I inked the edges of the card using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Broken China.

Easy to Make Gift Card Holder

I participated in a gift card holder swap in one of my cafemom groups. The holder had to be for anytime so I did not add a sentiment onto it. These were so easy to make!

I got the idea from Dawns Stamping Thoughts. Her blog has some really cool tutorials & is set to very groovy music. I improvised a bit on my holder since I did not have all of the supplies that Dawn had so feel free to make it work for you =)

I used the paper that was featured in my store's
Premiere Contest Kit. I also used my Scor-Pal Measuring & Scor-Board on this project. This is definitely one of the best things you can buy for yourself.

Here are the details on the holder. The paper for the holder is cut 4 1/4" x 11". Score that paper at 3", 5 1/2", and 8". The wrapper for the outside of the holder measures 1"x 7 1/2". My measurements are a little different than Dawn's, but it still works. I used my Marvy punch on the wrapper & left it blank so that the user could make it work for whatever occassion that he or she would like.

Marvy Paper Crimpers

I was thinking about alternatives to the embossing machines out there such as the Sizzix or the Cuttlebug. For me, I am a Cricut chick & I was not sure if I really would make good use of another machine. My sole purpose of getting an additional machine would be to get the embossing effects that I have seen on cards that I admire that I am unable to get from my Cricut. I came across Marvy Paper Crimpers. This tool comes in 5 different patterns that will give your paper an embossed effect for a fraction of the cost. Although 5 different patterns is definitely a small amount in comparison to the options that the Cuttlebug and/or Sizzix machines provide, if you are just testing the waters on the embossed look, this may be a good option for you. This is definitely a much cheaper way to see if this is something that you think you would like.

On my card, I used the Paper Crimper Bubbles on a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of Bazzill Bling Paper. The tool was easy to use & the process was quick. I used my cute little Snag Em Giraffe Stamp. I embellished this little guy with some googly eyes &
dew drops. Some of my customers have had this stamp arrive with their purchase from my store. There are still a few giraffes left so if you place your order soon, you should be able to Snag Em.

Fun Flock

I was really excited to make this card using Fun Flock and Pig Time, a stamp by Inkadinkado.

I first stamped my image using Tim Holtz Distress Ink Worn Lipstick. This gave my pig a perfect pink outline. To get the pink background behind the image, I dipped my Cut N Dry Foam into the distress ink and just dabbed it onto the paper.

I then took my Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive and put it into the center of the image. Next, I pinched some flock out of my Pixie Pink flock jar by Stampendous & pressed it into the glue. I found that the flock was very forgiving & allowed me to mold it into the shape of my image. I then added two googly eyes to the pig & gave him a pink button nose. Finally, I accented the pig using Cotton Candy Stickles.

I have tried using all different kinds of adhesives with the flock, but I prefer to use the Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive when working with this. My second favorite glue to use with the flock was my Two Way Glue Pen. Although a taperunner worked to adhere the flock, I thought I had better results using the other two glues.

Finally, I always think that flocking looks better in person than it does in pictures. It's one of those things where you just have to see & feel it to really appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed my short tutorial.

Simplicity

I made a few simple cards that I thought I would share. I did not do sentiments on the cards because every now & then, I just need a plain notecard. These cards can suit any purpose. I just got Daisy D's Sweet Baby Jane 8x8 Double Sided Cardstock Paper at the store & I absolutely love it. I made this card using one of the papers & some leftover vellum. I ripped the vellum & adhered it to the card using Vellum Glue Dot Sheets. These are so easy to use. Just take the adhesive & put it on the vellum. Next, lift the sheet off of the vellum & adhere it to your paper. It really does not get any easier than that. Plus, I have used these adhesive sheets a few times before they lose all of their hold. To finish the look, I added some bling to the polka dots that were already on the card. I inked the edges of this card using Tim Holtz Distress Ink Dusty Concord.

I made another plain notecard using some leftover cardstock & designer paper, a Bella image, and leftover bling. I used my 5" Paper Creaser to fold the cardstock evenly. I really love this tool =) I colored my image using my Copic 72 Color Set C. Although the Ciao markers are a bit more affordable than the original Copics, I do prefer to color in smaller images with the originals. Because the original Copics have a fine nib, it is easier to color in details with this marker than with the ciaos. And, I am not sure if I just got lucky when I ordered, but the original Copics came in under 30 days. Unfortunately, the Ciaos have up to a 90 day turnaround time from the manufacturer. If you really are interested in these markers, but do not feel like waiting so long, I suggest giving the original copics a try. I cannot promise a shorter ship time, but when I ordered the original copics for myself, I did see a significant reduction in turnaround time. The edges of the cards are inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Worn Lipstick.

Breathe Life Into Your Cricut

I have had my Cricut for almost a year now. As much as I love it to scrap with, I was getting bored with just cutting out letters & diecuts. Cricut has several cartridges that takes your machine to a whole new level. I decided to give the cartridge Tags, Bags, Boxes and More a try.

This was my first attempt at making a bag & I set this to 4 for the size of the bag. I have the original Cricut, but I bet with the Expressions this cartridge could also do wonders.

After I ran my paper through the machine, I ran my 5" Paper Creaser by Ranger over the pre-scored lines made from my Cricut. I found this to be helpful in getting the paper to bend easier into the shape of the bag.

Next, I used Terrifically Tacky Tape to keep the sides of the bag together. I highly recommend this tape for these kinds of projects. I initially attempted to secure the card with my regular taperunner adhesive to see if it were really necessary to spend extra money on the tape. I am sure it is possible, but my bag kept coming undone when I did not use the Terrifically Tacky Tape. I found that this tape works wonders & I really enjoyed the ease of working with it.

The bag & matching card are made with Bazzill paper & Basic Grey designer paper. I added some bling to my card that I had leftover to just give it a little extra touch. I inked the edges of my paper with ColorBox Queue Pigment Ink Tulip Field
.

This was a very simple & quick project. I think the bag would look great filled with small candy or a gift card. I hope you enjoyed my little project =)

Starbuck Gift Card Holder

A week or so ago, Kim of
Crafts By Kim posted an adorable gift card holder that she made for her mom for Mother's Day. I was inspired so I went & bought a giftcard for my friend's bday & used my inspiration from Kim to create this unique holder. This was easy to make & took under ten minutes to do. I am going to pair this up with my Monkey Card that I posted last night. For the center of the holder, I used my vintage flower that I bought last month in NYC & paired it up with another flower that I had hanging around here. I attached the flowers using a one of my sparkly brads that I picked up on sale at Michael's a few months ago. Of course I inked the edges with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink. This is a definitely a gift I would love to receive =)

Monkey See, Monkey Do

I love the irresistable little monkey sets by Stampendous. I created this card using the new release from Stampendous Changito Dos. I found these stamps to be very easy to work with. For the cocunuts, I used Dew Droplets in Island Blossoms. I used my favorite adhesive to adhere the coconuts to the card, Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive. I love this stuff because it is strong & dries clear. I colored my images using my Copic Markers from the Ciao Set C. For the color that borders the monkey, I used my Tim Holtz Ink - Shabby Shutters. And for those of you who know my work, I am a stickles fanatic - so of course, I used my Stickles Glitter Glue in Lime Green to accent my palm tree. The cardstock is Bazzill Bling, the designer paper is from Stemma, and the ribbon is from the dollar bin =)

The White Pen Test

When trying to determine which white pen to carry in my store, I wanted to make sure that I tested each of them out before choosing. I tried 6 of the white pens on the market (see picture) and I found that almost all of the white color disappeared into the paper after coloring on it. When I colored with it, the white color was there & then it just evaporated into the paper. The best pen out of all of these was the Inkssentials White Pen from Ranger. The second best pen for the white pens was the pen on the left made in Japan by Signo. I was extremely disappointed with the results of the Sharpie, the Deco Marvey pen, and Galaxy. If I had to rank third place, I would pick the Gelly Roll (but only if I really had to pick lol). So...my winner is the Inkssentials White Pen. I would love to hear your opinions on white pens..

Copic Markers & Tim Holtz Distress Ink

Last night, I decided to break out some of the new Tim Holtz Distress Inks. I was curious to know if I could color in an image stamped with the Tim Holtz ink with a copic marker. I was hesistant because I thought it would smear the ink as I have had a lot of trouble with different inks in the past when coloring with the copics. I used the Tim Holtz Walnut Stain and my New Leaf Copic Ciao to the image and colored all over it. No SMEARING at all =) I am so excited bc these inks come in such a variety of colors.

Finally, I made this thank you card for a friend. I used my Inkadinkado repositionable stamps, Formal Expressions. These stamps are so easy to use! I also used the Tim Holtz Shabby Shutters to create a background of color where I stamped the bird. The Tim Holtz inks stay wet a bit longer so it is easier to smear and create =) Of course, I used some Stickles in Patina & my Glitter Spica pen in blue to accent. Here is my card:

Quickie Card

I love cardmaking as much as the next paper addict, but sometimes I just do not feel like it. Obviously, at this point in my life, I cannot just send any old card to my friends & family. They know that I make cards so if I send the $1.99 Hallmark through the mail, it's just not cutting it. So, I found a quick way to get the same effect of a homemade card, but it's my way of cheating. Here is what you will need:

Inkadinkado just came out with these beautiful premade cards that come in a variety of colors called Personal Impressions. The cards even come with matching envelopes! The card that I used is called "Bombay Butterfly." The area to be stamped is cleary highlighted in the middle & works perfectly with the icon & border clear stamp sets. I definitely suggest playing around with the stamp before you go stamping onto the cardstock. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of being a "hotshot" and not practicing first with my new stamp & so I ruined one card. But, have no fear because I used that "ruined" card by cutting out the butterfly in the corner of it & using it as a pop-up on my finished card. To make sure that I did not destroy another card, I used my Giga Marvy punch in the scallop circle and stamped onto a sheet of cardstock that matched the butterfly on the card. This way, if I messed up with the stamp again, it would not ruin the actual card.

Here is what the finished card looks like:

It's not that big of deal, but it is done in no time flat. Best part - people still feel like they are getting a homemade card =) And, they kinda are ;)

Locks of Love & Fancy Schmancy Signature

I just wanted to briefly tell anyone who is interested about a wonderful opportunity to help a child with cancer. Earlier this week, I donated 12 inches of my hair to http://www.locksoflove.org/ This organization accepts 10 inches & longer of hair that is not bleached or permanently dyed, and no more than 5% gray. I heard about this opportunity from my little cousin who did it. She is in elementary school and had beautiful long hair. One day, she came by and her hair was in a short bob haircut. I was shocked to see her new look & asked her why she cut her hair off. Her mother, a 2 time cancer survivor - now in remission, had gone through chemo & needed wigs. Her daughter, inspired by the challenges of her mom's illness, decided to make a difference & donate her own hair. I was totally touched by this selfless act. If a little child could give up her lovely locks of hair to help out a child affected by cancer, I thought I could definitely extend this gesture. For the past year, I grew out my hair and it finally was time to do the cutting. I am not fond of my short hair, but I know that it is helping a child. If you are not willing to chop off 10 inches, Pantene allows you to donate a minimum of 8 inches http://www.beautifullengths.com/en_US/index_home.jsp This was also featured on Oprah. If you have grey hair, you can still donate as it will be used to offset the costs of wigs by selling it. If you are interested in donating, be sure to read the requirements listed on both sites to see which works best for you. I will post an after pic of my new haircut soon =)

Vintage Flowers & Birthday Cake

Yesterday, I ventured into the city to check out what it had to offer for the scrappers & stampers of the world. I went to the Mecca of ribbon & trim stores, Tinsel Trading Company, and opened up an account with them. I have never in my entire life seen as much ribbon, trim, buttons, feathers, and fibers in my entire life - forget about the fact that it is housed under 2 roofs....This is where the Martha Stewarts & Ralph Laurens (literally) of the world buy their trims. Their website does not even do them justice, so dont bother looking (well if you must look http://www.tinseltrading.com/). Pack your bags & book your airlines tickets to NYC pronto =)

While there, I picked up some delicious vintage flowers. These are the sweetest & most delicate little blooms. I cannot wait to put these beauties on my cards. I was always fond of the Prima, but I have to say that these put those gorgeous flowers to shame! Here is a quick shot of what the vintage flowers look like. I am going to be selling them in my store soon, so let me know if you would like some =)

This past week, I also celebrated my 21st birthday (for the 10th time lol). I had a yummy mouse chocolate birthday cake. Now that I am mom, my birthday cakes can really be just about any mom's cake. It is a real rite of passage to no longer have your bday cakes scripted with your first name. Nevertheless, it went straight from the lips to the hips =)

And, being that we are on the topic of chocolate (one of my favorite subjects ha!), I have to give you another good reason to come & visit NYC - we have the "Treats Truck." Think the icecream man meets freshly baked goods served by a hipster chick =) Every day the lady who works this truck posts which blocks she will be serving up the treats. Yesterday, she was on 38th Street & 5th Avenue between 12 - 4. My girlfriend & I stalked her down & were able to get the MOST DELICIOUS BROWNIES on the planet! The treats girl was super nice too! She looked better in person than she does on her youtube clip =) And, she even donates a portion of profit to her favorite charity of the month. I forgot that I had these images from Pink Petticoat that I printed out at least a month ago (Ya know Deb is just an enabler & sometimes I do not even remember ordering as it's such an impulse buy kinda thing with her lol).

Anyways, I just got my Copic Spica Glitter Pens and I wanted to give them a whirl. These are awesome! They are so easy to control & they dry super fast. I did not want to go nuts with them so I limited the glitter to just a few areas. I used the sky blue. I am one to get in trouble with the Stickles lol. I also used my Copic Multi-liner BS to go over a few areas in black. I didn't want to overdo that either. I hope you enjoy my tubby little mama. I think she is just darling! I just wanted to explain the details of the club on here so that if you are interested, you do not miss out on a great deal on these awesome markers. This is a great way to try the markers out, start a set, and even complete a set. Please let me know if you are interested.

With a commitment of 3 months, you will get 6 ciao markers for $20. This includes U.S. Shipping. At the end of 3 months, you will have 18 markers - this is half of a boxed set. Your markers will all come from boxed set A, B, C, or D. Spring Birdie

As most of you know, I have been putting together my store & trying to offer breaks on some of the products that we all love =)

I made a card tonight using a new set of InkADinkAdoo Stamps that have just arrived at my store. I used my lovely copic ciao markers to color this little birdie in. The sentiment stamp was found in the $1 Bin at A.C. Moore! How could I pass that up? Paperbag Boy Scrapbook

I made this paperbag scrapbook & card for the birth of my principal's son. I do not really know her that well as I just started working with her recently, but she is really nice and I wanted to help celebrate this very precious moment. As a mother myself, I am sure that all mothers agree that the birth of a child is a life changing experience that is incomparable to anything else. I had a lot of fun making it. I challenged myself to use my tools & my scraps. I am happy with how it turned out. I figured she could use it as her little brag book at work =)

This card is for my best friend Rachel that I went to law school with. As soon as I saw this Bella, it reminded me so much of her. Now that we are both mommy's and have busy careers & families, we do not see each other as much. I hope that she keeps the card on her desk and when one of her clients aggravates her, she thinks of the 2 of us reading "Vogue" during our Contracts class when we were supposed to be reading the Restatement. BORING!!!!!

Copic Bella Holder

I absolutely love Modge Podge and I try my best to keep it out of sight in an effort to quell my burning desire to break it out and alter really just about anything. Well tonight, I could not stop myself. I was happily coloring my bellas - really I was just minding my business. Anyway, I went over to my scrap area to grab some primsacolors and out of the corner of my eye, I saw this little wooden gift bag that I bought last year. I could NOT resist. Before I knew it, I had the paint out and the Modge Podge. I was in such a moment of inspiration that I almost forgot to ink the edges of my Bella!! Well, needless to say, I now have a cute little contraption to keep my copics in. It does not hold all of my copics, but I am willing to accept that. I hope you all enjoy my little goody bag.

Shopa Bella Card

I just got my primsacolor pencils the other night at A.C. Moore. I could not wait to open them and start coloring. I had to dig through my college art supplies to find my trusted pencil sharpener. I was so excited that I was able to find it since I did not realize the pencils would not come with a sharpener. It's been a while since I have colored with pencils, but this was so much fun. I figured this card would be good for just about anytime. I hope you enjoy.

Scripture Challenge Week 1, 2, & 3

Week 1: Faith
Here is the first week of the scripture challenge - Faith. I had so many different verses for faith that I found it difficult to narrow it down to just one verse. I thought that this scripture really showed the intensity of what faith is and what faith can do when you have it. While studying, many studies underscored the difference between faith and belief. I wanted my scripture to accentuate that as well.

Week 2: Kindness

So here is my second week of the scripture challenge .
This card has been done for a while, but I just never get around to taking pictures. Honestly, I am the worst photographer so that is probably why I put off taking the pics. For this card, I used a scripture from Psalms (my favorite section of the Bible). I am not sure if this is a scripture that people would associate with kindness, but I think that there is a strong correlation between being kind and being fair. IMO, justice is the best way to treat people with kindness.

Week 3: Beauty
Again, I found it very difficult to narrow it down to just one scripture. When I heard the word beauty, I immediately thought of Noah's Ark. Next, I thought of the creation story. I did not want to stop at that so I dug deeper into the Bible to find a verse that I was not familar with. I chose this verse because it is used during the celebration of the Jewish holiday, Sukkot. I did not remember that this verse was part of that holiday, but after studying it came to my attention that this verse is said during that holiday. My father is Jewish and as a child, my family would take part in this fun traditon. Although, I am a Christian (and always have been), the verse brought back warm memories for me. I decorated the card with my favorite tree stamp as that is one of the wonderful things that He has created for us.
